I was recently asked by someone browsing my web site why custom bikes cost so much.
I am not in the business of making stock bikes. These are custom, and being all different from each other, there are no economies of scale. My prices are not out of line with high-end custom bikes; I just don't make anything to go up against the average bike in a bike shop. I realize that there is no option for a tall rider who wants a $1,000 bike. Apparently, big bike companies do not think that is enough of a market to bother with. I can't fix that; I can only do what I can do, which is make great bikes that big riders can use for years that are stiff, stable, strong and won't shimmy or break.
